Trainer Robert Heathcote looks south for Funtantes as rain ruins Queensland Options

FUNTANTES is off to Sydney with a strong possibility of a New Zealand extension on her tour of duty.
The decision to take her on the road was driven by the uncertainty in Brisbane racing because of the persistent rain.
Trainer Robert Heathcote cannot find a lot of suitable race options for open-class sprinters in southeast Queensland for horses not qualified for the Magic Millions carnival.
"My two options for Doomben on Saturday were to go back to a 1110m sprint or up to 1350m in the Lough Neagh without a lead-up run for a month," he said.
"After this weekend and they are not ideal, there really is nothing much for her in Brisbane."
Heathcote has entered Funtantes for the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap and also the Benchmark 85 fillies and mares race at Randwick on Saturday. Both are over 1200m.
He said it was likely the mare would run in the Razor Sharp with Jim Byrne to ride.
Heathcote has booked a spot on a flight to NZ next week for Funtantes to run in the Railway Stakes at Ellerslie on New Year's Day. The trip hinges on her performance at Randwick.
"The connections are happy to spend a few dollars to have a shot at a big race," he said.
Stable mate Gundy Son also has been entered for the Razor Sharp and a Benchmark 85 sprint over 1300m. If Gundy Son runs in the restricted race Byrne also will be the jockey.
