Humma. A Deserved Cup Winner!

Nathan Exelby From: The Courier-Mail April 01, 2011 7:03AM hummaA carefully devised pre-race plan netted Rob Heathcote and Larry Cassidy the Toowoomba Cup with Humma ($8).

"It's funny, weight doesn't seem to matter on the Cushion track and also sitting deep doesn't seem to be a problem," Heathcote said.

"Larry and I talked before going out and we both agreed that if we could be fourth, fifth, sixth, even three deep, it doesn't matter.

"I was going to get him going for a few races before the winter carnival because that's his right level now, but we had wet tracks and he missed a few runs so it set him back and it was only a month ago I spotted the race and decided to target the horse for it."

“It’s always very satisfying when plans come to fruition and even more so when a great bunch of people sent me the horse up from Sydney and he’s has now reached the level of a cup winner”!

“He has had a couple of setbacks soundness wise since his good run of consecutive city wins a year or so ago and it’s taken a while for the horse to get his confidence back but I have never lost faith in the horses ability’! I know a few thought his days as a competitive racehorse were over but as we say….”yea of little faith”!

Heathcote said a race like the Rockhampton Cup would now be firmly in his sights after a couple more city handicaps.
