Ross and Judy Cutts Look To Rupert Clarke Stakes Success With Woorim After Brother Bribie Dominates At Doomben

OWNERS Ross and Judy Cutts are hoping Bribie's dominant win at Doomben yesterday is a sign of bigger things at Caulfield on Saturday. Bribie's older brother, Woorim, is one of the top chances in the Group 1 Rupert Clarke Stakes, a race in which he was a close second last year. Bribie ($1.85) became the fourth foal of the good race mare Wabble to be successful on the track when he easily won the Asteron Life Maiden Plate (1200m).
Wabble's first four foals to race have been Wabesto, My Limit, Woorim and now Bribie. "She had a full sister to Woorim but we lost her after she broke a leg in a track gallop, but we now have another full relation, Conca Belle, who is an unraced three-year-old filly, and we have Any Suggestion, who is close to foaling to Pentire," Ross Cutts said. Bribie has spent a lot of time on the sideline with a hairline fracture of the knee but now looks headed for a bright future. The grey four-year-old was surprisingly well-beaten when a short-priced favourite at Eagle Farm on September 7 when resuming.
The winner of that race, Found The One, came to Doomben on Saturday and overcame a massive class jump to score again. "He was ridden for speed over the 1000m first up and I think he appreciated going to 1200m today and getting a nice trail on the pace," Bribie's trainer Rob Heathcote said. Heathcote is upbeat about the chances of Woorim giving him his first Group 1 success. "I felt Woorim was unlucky not to win the Rupert Clarke last year and this is our chance to right a wrong," Heathcote said. "It's a tall order to win a Group 1 with 57.5kg but I think he is up to the task. I'm more confident with Damien Browne as my jockey. He has a great knowledge of what Woorim is capable of and he knows the horse is going beautifully."
