Tabulate Earns Winter Carnival Assault

In-form stayer Tabulate has earned himself a brief break but bigger things await the five-year-old when he returns to the track.

Tabulate has raced in career-best form this preparation and took his winning sequence to three with an easy victory in the BMAG Handicap (2200m) at Eagle Farm on Monday.

The victory has prompted his trainer Robert Heathcote to plan a winter carnival campaign.

Tabulate ($1.40 fav) came from the tail of the field to post a 2-1/4 length win over Encosta Tszyu ($4.40) with Yield Curve ($5.50) a length back third.

Heathcote said Tabulate should have won his past four starts and pencilled in the Listed Tails Stakes (2100m), formerly the Peter Gallagher Stakes, at Eagle Farm on May 11 as the gelding's next run.

"I will put him straight in the paddock for seven days to freshen him up and bring him back here for a black type race," Heathcote said.

"There's a nice race in him and his record should probably read four straight."

Winning rider Jim Byrne turned in a slick performance and judged his charge's finishing sprint to perfection.

"He has a really good turn of foot and you have to judge your run because he sprints quickly when you let him go," Byrne said.

"His effort to carry the 58kg and sprint home from near the tail of the field was very good and he's up to the better races.

Heathcote praised Byrne's timing and said there wasn't a jockey in Brisbane riding in better form.

"I think it's fair to say Jimmy rode him perfectly," Heathcote said.

"His timing of late had been perfect and he is riding with great confidence and that's showing in the results he is getting."
