Tabulate On Target For Brisbane Cup

Talented galloper Tabulate will be out to give Eagle Farm trainer Robert Heathcote his first Brisbane Cup after a fast finishing win in today's Premier's Cup at Doomben.

Tabulate had won four on end prior to the winter carnival before he was a victim of a slow pace when ninth in the Chairmans Handicap last start.

But with a good pace on today jockey Jim Byrne allowed the gelding to settle well back before saving ground on the inside and bursting through along the fence late.

Albertinelli, given a gun run by Blake Shinn, got through on the rails early in the straight and angled off the fence, kicking strongly.

He had seemingly held them all at bay before Tabulate lunged late on the inside to grab a nose win.

Albertinelli was second while Larry's Never Late boxed on well for third.

Heathcote has never won the Brisbane Cup but hopes Tabulate can change that over the longer journey in a fortnight.

“I have to give Jim Byrne credit,” Heathcote said. “He said he's got a good win in him a long time ago. He won four in a row before he was beaten last time with the tempo against but the tempo was there today.”

“The horse has been crying out for the 2400m and he's been hitting the line really well.”

The Group 2 Brisbane Cup is over 2400m at Eagle Farm in a fortnight
