Woorim Retired Due To Hoof Problems

woorimoak1Oakleigh Plate winner Woorim has been retired because of ongoing hoof problems.

"There are minute hairline fractures in his problematic hooves which may well have been lingering for some time and the ongoing battle is insurmountable," trainer Robert Heathcote said.

Woorim gave Heathcote his first Group One win as a trainer when he produced a barnstorming last-to-first finish to win last year's Oakleigh Plate.

The gelding failed to beat a runner home when attempting to defend his title in this year's Oakleigh Plate won by Mrs Onassis at Caulfield on February 23 when he pulled up sore.

Heathcote Unsure Of Doomben Starters

woorimoak1The recent rain deluge has been a dampener on every stable in south-east Queensland but leading trainer Rob Heathcote is endeavouring to be optimistic.

Heathcote, who will be in Melbourne to saddle up Woorim in the G1 Newmarket Handicap at Flemington, has a strong hand of eight runners engaged at Doomben on Saturday.

However, he's warned he could have as little as two starters depending on track conditions.

"I've got eight entered but it depends on the state of the track how many actually start," Heathcote said.
